Beaches you Should Visit in Croatia

I’ve rated my favourite beaches out of 5 stars based on busyness, water temperature, overall vibe and accessibility.

Drage, Pakostani ★★★★★

This is probably my favourite beach because it’s less busy than the other beach spots in Croatia. This is a beautiful natural cove with lots of shade, ideal for families. On the beach, you can rent deck chairs, sun shades and pedal boats. Nearby are also catering facilities. The beach has small gravel rocks and the water is refreshing. The swimming season is from mid-July to the end of August.

Kumenat Beach, Biograd Na Moru ★★★★★

This beach is tied for first with Drage. Kumenat beach is a pebble beach with sand in the sea, about 20 minutes walking from the center of Biograd, in the village Kumenat. It is a good clean beach, not overcrowded like the main beaches in Biograd. You can always find a place for towels. There is a cafe with billiards tables and good prices on the beach. There are urchins in the sea so watch your step. The water temperature is refreshing and incredibly clean.

Karin Gornji (Upper Karin), Obrovac ★★★★☆

Karin is divided into upper and lower Karin. There is a campground here. This beach doesn’t have many tourists because it is a local spot. It still gets quite busy but offers the warmest sea temperature. There is also a campsite here called Kamp Karin. Camp Karin is a beachfront campsite set on the unique Karin Sea, some say, the smallest sea in the world“. Its stunning environment of natural beauty, old pinewood trees and crystal clear water of the Adriatic Sea.

Plaža Soline, Biograd Na Moru ★★★☆☆

This beach is located in Biograd Na Moru and offers a wide variety of entertainment options. There are water activities along the beach and many restaurants. You are able to walk to the old town of Biograd in about 20 minutes along the water. This is the ideal spot for families because it offers a sandy area for children as well as bars and nightlife options. It’s the whole package but it is a major tourist beach. I gave it only three stars because the water is quite cold compared to the other beaches and unless you go very early in the morning the beach fills up quickly.

Slanica Beach, Murter ★★★☆☆

Slanica Beach is one of the pearls of the Sibenik Riviera, located on the tourist island of Murter. This sandy beach with concrete and rocky areas and shallow sea is perfect for young couples,or families with children. Sports, entertainment and various activities for children attract tourists who can reach the beach by car thanks to the nearby parking area. Finding a beach that isn’t busy during the peak of Croatia is challenging but this location was exceptionally busy!

Kozarica Beach, Pakostane ★★☆☆

This beach is located near a campsite, called camping Kozarica which is located directly on the sea and is surrounded with pine trees. It is only a 10 min walk to the centre of Pakoštane by the sea. The water is shallow enough for kids to play and has sandy parts. This beach also has great access to restaurants nearby. It gets very crowded throughout the day so would not be my first choice.

Borik Beach, Zadar ★★☆☆☆

Borik Beach is located 4km away from the city centre and easily reachable by local bus lines 8 and 5. The beach actually belongs to a hotel complex Falkensteiner Resort Borik. One part of the beach is sandy and the other gravel. There many spots for refreshments water sports and beach games. I prefer less touristy beaches and when I found out you had to pay a small entry fee to use the beach, I wasn’t too thrilled.
